VERBAL REASONING

The Verbal Reasoning Test was created with the aim of evaluating participants' language proficiency. It assesses the reasoning process of the individual through their comprehension of verbal information and their ability to discern the relationships that bind different words. Essentially, the participant will need to decipher the relationship that characterizes a known pair of words and then, according to this relationship, fill in the correct word - answer. The verbal reasoning ability rate generated, results from the comparison of the participant's performance to that of the general population that shares the same basic characteristics with the participant (gender, age, etc.).

The test consists of 40 simple questions related to word combination. As a user you will be asked to decipher the possible connections between different words. More specifically, you will be required to determine the relationship that binds a given pair of words and then apply the appropriate reasoning process in order to find the word that properly completes the second pair of words in each question. The results report will indicate your performance rate, calculated in comparison to the performance rate of a control group, namely a group of people that share the same characteristics as you, in terms of gender and age.

Responsible for the development of the questionnaire is Dr Ioannis Tsaousis, Assistant Professor in Psychometrics in the Department of Psychology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He graduated from Department of Psychology, University of Crete, completed the specialization diploma (M.Sc.) at the University of Reading in research methodology and statistics in Psychology and, as IKY Fellow, received his Ph.D. from the University of London - Goldsmith’s College, in Psychometry.
